He couldn't help but smile when he thought of her, his eyes alight with sad affection, and the lines in his solemn face lifted, making him seem almost alive for the first time in Years.
"So you want to know the truth about her huh? The lady in the window?" His slow, deliberate words echoed from years far gone and his gaze looked back at something long past.
"Where to start," he mused, and lapsed into silence. It wore on, the soft metronome of the clock resounding from deep inside the sleepy house, much too loud to be normal.
Just when the anticipation began to become too much, the man began again, "the first thing to know about her, is that she is the greatest and most terrible beauty I have ever seen. The second,is that she destroyed me and I loved her every day since the moment I laid eyes on her."
